Photographs show Claude T. Bissell, University President, welcoming first year student and addressing the student body in Convocation Hall (Opening address). Students greet returning Bissell who was away teaching at Harvard University the previous year. Free watermelon is given to the students prior to the meeting as a form of protest to Bissell's stance on University governance outside of Convocation Hall. Also, included are images of students and tents in front of Hart House representing "Tent City," which is a dramatization of the student housing shortage at the University of Toronto. This issue is further documented in photographs of student crowds in front Convocation Hall being addressed by student leaders.
