Photographs taken during the cornerstone laying ceremony for the Humanities and Social Sciences Research Library and the School of Library Science complex [Robarts Library complex] in June 1970. The photographs reveal the building under construction, President Claude T. Bissell and Hon. William G. Davis, Minister of University Affairs addressing the crowd and others involved in this project including: Brian Land, Director of the School of Library Science, and Robert H. Blackburn, Chief Librarian. Also present at the ceremony: Andrew S. Mathers, representing Mathers and Haldenby (principal architects), O. D, Vaughan, chairman of the Board of Governors, Chancellor Omond M. Solandt, representatives of the project managers, Stone and Webster Canada Ltd., the design architects (Warner, Burns, Toan & Lunde) and the builders. This was President Claude T. Bissell's final official public appearance in the 1969-1970 academic year.
