Four heads of Library Science past, present and future were present at the official opening of the new Faculty of Library Science Building: Dr. Winifred Barnstead, Miss Bertha Bassam, who retired in 1964, Brian Land, who became Dean when the School became a Faculty, and Dr. Francess Halpenny, who took office in July 1972. William B. Harris, Chairman of the Board of Governors, formally declared the building open at a brief ceremony in the lecture theatre of the Faculty. With him on the platform were Acting President John H. Sword, Dr. Barnstead, Brian Land, and Miss Karen Savage, vice-president of the Faculty student council.
