The Hon. Edward Blake was born in 1833 and died in 1912. Blake was Chancellor of the University of Toronto from 1876 to 1900. He was the second Premier of Ontario, 1871-1872.

He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Medicine with Dr. Banting for his part in the discovery of insulin in 19l23. MacLeod resigned the Chair of Physiology in 1928 and died in 1935.
